History

De Berkel BV was founded in 1948 by the Ten Bruggencate family. Until 1995, the company was located in Borculo, on the De Berkel River, from which it derived its name.

In the 1980s, the production was gradually moved abroad and De Berkel moved to Varsseveld, which is easily accessible on the A18.

Product groups

De Berkel originally produced medical clothing for the healthcare sector and very soon afterwards started to produce company clothing for the catering sector. In addition to these sectors, nowadays we also produce company clothing for industrial laundries, the food industry and service sector, as well as tailor-made clothing for a number of large companies.

Organisation

The entire process from design to delivery to the customer is managed from Varsseveld.

Since 1996, De Berkel has been an ISO 9001 certified company. Internationally, De Berkel operates as a subsidiary of the Teamdress Group, an enterprise that has its headquarters located in Hamburg (Germany). The Teamdress Group also has branches in  Poland (production and logistics) and Moldavia (production). A new production location is currently being started up in the Ukraine.
The joint production companies are managed by Westers Management.

De Berkel and working conditions

De Berkel is dedicated to complying with good working conditions in the factories where its clothing is produced. It is for that reason that we are a member of the Fair Wear Foundation (FWF). Annually, the working conditions in our production locations are monitored in accordance with the FWF method of working. This process is supervised and monitored by the FWF.

The FWF strives for good working conditions in factories where clothing is produced for the Dutch market. For this purpose, the FWF has developed a code of conduct and dedicates itself to actively, effectively and systematically monitoring the working conditions and, if required, improving these in a sustainable manner.
